SURFING Magazine's 30 Years Of Flame More than three decades of the finest surf photography in the world. That's the simplest take on the work of Larry "Flame" Moore. As the longtime Photo Editor of Surfing Magazine, he was responsible for setting standards for some of the greatest names in surf imagery: as a photographer, he was relentless in pursuing the ultimate shot. Here for the first and only time is a full collection of Flame's classic images, tracking surf Photography's cutting edge from the early '70's to 2004, from California beachbreaks to Cortes Bank.

Covering surfing literature from Captain Cook (1779) to the latest books on surfing (2004), with an introduction by Steve Pezman, it also contains a listing of early descriptions of surfing, including the more important surfing articles. This book lists over 600 books and magazines with over 100 pictures of book and magazine cover art and illustrations. A must have reference guide for the serious collector.

Tom has been a primary contributor to Surfer magazine since the mid-’70s. Highly organized and technically knowledgeable, Tom has developed a broad file of outstanding portraiture, studio work and photo-survey projects, but he is most known for his intense surf action. Although a bit older than the young standouts he usually focuses on, he is so young and active in spirit that he has become travel mates with the young-guns of today’s surfing. This lets him into their sphere where he records the highlights of their amazing talents. No one has covered the wave phenomena of Teahupoo in Tahiti more than Servais, and he frequents Cloudbreak on Tavarua, Fiji, so often you would think he lives there. The results are in evidence in this volume.

Warren Bolster began surf photography in early 1970s California, and is still active from his home base in Honolulu, Hawaii. From shooting the underground Newbreak crew at Sunset Cliffs in the early 70s, and covering the mid-70s skateboard revolution as editor of Skateboarder magazine, to his recent split-level images that examine dual realities by peering above and beneath the ocean surface simultaneously, to technically amazing speed-blurrs that via freeze motion deliver the sensation of the wave dance, to stomach fluttering aerial vistas of outer reef cloud breaks, and his camera board perspectives that look out from behind the surfer buried deep in the curl, Warren’s photography confronts the viewer with a dazzling array of intense visual portrayals of the surfing experience.

The second in our landmark collection of matched set surf photo monographs. Art Brewer is the dean of active American surf photographers whose skill in lighting and studio strategies combines with his unique ability to capture precise moments of surfing brilliance. Art's body of work includes era defining action classics, psyche probing portraits and surf cultural tableaus dating from 1967 through 2001. Introductory essays by Steve Barilotti, Craig Stecyk and Drew Kampion speak both to the genre and the remarkable individual.
